Medium: 320 moving, reflective, mirror-polished stainless steel tags (1.75” x 1.75” x 1/16” each) and galvanized steel frame.

Galaxy M51 was installed as a part of Acclimatized: Heaven & Earth 5, Center on Contemporary Art (CoCA), in collaboration with Seattle Parks & Recreation and the Carkeek Park Advisory Council. Supported in part by an award from 4Culture, July 13 – October 20, 2013.

Galaxy M51 is based on imagery from the Hubble Space Telescope.

This artwork reminds viewers of our place in the universe. The installation is in constant flux as the multiple, moving reflections shimmer and reflect bits of the sky, the landscape, and the ambient light. Each viewer’s subjective perception and associations to the work are unique.
